BMW M2 gets a special track kit to improve aerodynamics and speed
The appearance of the current BMW M2 may not appeal to everyone, but its performance and thrilling driving sensations are undeniable. Now the car can be made even more powerful with the launch of the special M Performance Track Kit, designed for owners who frequently visit race tracks, rather than just driving from home to the nearest store.
The kit for the M2 includes a number of important upgrades:
Development and details of the aerodynamic kit
BMW has been developing the track kit since at least the middle of last year, and sales in Europe will begin in July. The most noticeable addition is the installation of an adjustable rear wing in a “swan neck” style, similar to that used on the BMW M4 GT4 and M4 GT3 race cars.
When the wing is set to “Race” mode, it shifts back by 50 mm, while in “Street” mode it fully complies with German road regulations. The wing’s angle of attack can also be adjusted. BMW has even installed a stop light in the center of the wing.
In addition to the wing, the new track kit for the M2 includes an adjustable front splitter and diffuser, designed to increase downforce. There are also small canards on the bumper and an additional air intake for the engine oil cooler.
Improvements in sound and handling
Perhaps even more important than the aerodynamic updates are the new four-way adjustable coilovers, adjustable top mounts, and the ability to raise or lower the car by up to 20 mm. Optional track tires are also available for those seeking to minimize lap times.
In addition to the release of this specific track kit for the M2, BMW introduced a new M Performance exhaust system for the flagship M2 CS model. It is approximately 8 kg lighter than the standard system and is offered with titanium or carbon fiber tips, which is said to improve the sound of the turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine.
Cost of upgrades
The new track kit for the M2 will cost customers 23,500 euros, excluding installation, while the M Performance exhaust system will cost from 8,343 euros, also before adding installation costs.
These upgrades clearly demonstrate BMW’s focus on developing the racing potential of its production models, offering enthusiasts factory solutions for increased performance. Such offerings often set a benchmark for the aftermarket tuning scene and highlight technologies initially honed in motorsport. The introduction of such kits can also influence the overall perception of the model, shifting the focus from everyday practicality to track capabilities, which may interest a new category of buyers.
