BMW opens orders for the new i3 50 xDrive First Edition in Europe
BMW has officially started taking orders for the new i3 electric vehicle in Europe, ahead of its launch this autumn. Citing high demand, the manufacturer is offering customers a special version called the i3 50 xDrive First Edition.
This special series is based on the M Sport trim and features a number of additional options, including the Iconic Glow illuminated kidney grille and the AC Charging Professional system. The latter increases AC charging speed from 11 kW to 22 kW.
Interior and equipment of the special series
More significant changes have been made inside the vehicle. The First Edition adds a heated steering wheel, three-zone climate control, and a 3D head-up display. This is complemented by upgraded front seats, automatic tailgate operation, and a premium Harman Kardon audio system.
Available options include heated rear seats, a panoramic glass roof, and an electric towbar. The model also offers a highway assistant, enabling hands-free driving at speeds of up to 130 km/h.
Buyers will have a choice of six exterior colors and three wheel options in 19 and 20 inches.
Technical specifications and performance
Power is provided by a 108.7 kWh battery, which supplies a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system. Total output is 463 hp (345 kW) and 645 Nm of torque. This allows the First Edition to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds, with a WLTP range of up to 906 km.
When the battery runs low, owners will appreciate the 800V technology and the ability to fast-charge with DC power at up to 400 kW. This allows the range to be replenished by 423 km in just ten minutes.
Management quotes and pricing
Board member Jochen Goller stated: “The new BMW i3 is a breakthrough car for us,” and “we can already tell from the high level of interest… that it will be very well received by our customers.” He called the launch “extremely important” and added that the start of orders is “an important next step.”
The price of the i3 50 xDrive First Edition in the UK starts from £57,905 (approximately $76,553), which is £4,900 ($6,478) more than the standard i3 50 xDrive. In Germany, the premium is €9,440 ($10,828), with a starting price of €75,340 ($86,420).
Overall, the launch of this model demonstrates BMW’s strategic move in the premium electric vehicle segment. The combination of high performance, substantial range, and fast-charging technology makes the i3 a competitive player in the market. The special First Edition series, despite its higher price, offers customers exclusive equipment, which may attract early brand enthusiasts seeking the latest electric vehicle technology.
