BMW is Already Updating the Restyled Neue Klasse 5 Series

BMW 5-Series Design Update

BMW is making adjustments to the anticipated facelift of the 5-Series, which was initially supposed to follow the radical features of the Neue Klasse concept. Recent spy photos of prototypes, including the Touring wagon, show that designers have softened some of the solutions.

Key expected changes include:

Interior and Technology Changes

For now, the interior of the prototypes remains hidden, but the updated 5-Series is expected to receive the new panoramic iDrive system. It will include a central screen and a wide curved display stretching almost the entire width of the dashboard. The system will be controlled by updated iDrive software.

The appearance of a new four-spoke steering wheel, which has already debuted on the iX3 and received mixed reactions, is also expected.

Powertrain Updates

No major changes to the engine lineup are planned. The base 2.0-liter turbo engine is expected to remain, while the 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine may receive a slight power increase.

Diesel versions, an updated plug-in hybrid model, and the electric i5, which will likely receive improvements in efficiency and range, will also remain in the lineup.

These changes in the development process indicate the company’s flexibility and its response to potential market opinion. Instead of a sharp break with the past, BMW seems to be choosing the path of evolution, gradually integrating new Neue Klasse style elements while preserving the recognizability of one of its key models. This decision may be aimed at satisfying both fans of the brand’s traditional design and those expecting innovations. The success of this approach will determine how well the company manages to balance heritage and the future in the competitive business sedan and wagon segment.
