Powerful QX80 to Appear Sooner Than Expected
Infiniti is preparing to launch the flagship high-performance version of its QX80 SUV significantly earlier than planned. Initially, the most powerful modification was expected to appear only around 2027, but now the company has confirmed that its competitor to the Cadillac Escalade-V will debut before the end of this year.
The brand’s intentions became clear after the presentation of two dramatic concepts last year. They signaled the aspiration to create an SUV with power surpassing all previous models.
Technical Expectations and Details
According to the senior vice president of Nissan, the base bi-turbo V6 is already present in the design, but its performance will be increased to the mark of “over 600 horsepower.” This significantly exceeds the figures of the standard version, which produces 450 hp and 699 Nm.
“But then this performance is now boosted to over 600 horsepower, and this version will appear in this calendar year”
It is anticipated that the production model may revive the Red Sport lineup. To achieve such figures, unique turbochargers and a new exhaust system will be used.
Exterior and Exclusivity
The model will receive not only a powerful engine. Likely, aggressive body elements such as a front splitter, widened wheel arches, and new side sills will transition from the Track Spec concept to the production car. The rear will be adorned with a quad exhaust and a special diffuser.
To brake such a powerful machine, serious components will be needed, so it is expected to be equipped with 24-inch wheels and brakes from Brembo.
However, becoming the owner of this SUV will not be easy. According to reports, Infiniti plans to produce only about 600 units per year for the US market. Allocation among dealers will be based on their current sales of regular QX80s. This makes the model not only powerful but also potentially rare.
The early release of such a model could become a serious challenge for competitors in the luxury high-performance SUV segment. It also indicates a shift in Infiniti’s strategy, which is betting on emotional, “charged” versions to strengthen the brand’s image. The success of this model could set the tone for the company’s future products and show whether the market is ready for more extreme variants of luxury SUVs. The limited production run is likely intended to support the model’s exclusivity and value, making it a desirable object for collectors and enthusiasts.
