The British publication This is Money in collaboration with the used car dealer Warrantywise conducted a study on the reliability of crossovers aged from 3 to 8 years. It is worth saying right away that contrary to common stereotypes, not quite the brands you would expect to see appeared among the leaders and outsiders.
The study is based on the survey results of 750 thousand clients of the company Warrantywise, which allowed to calculate the reliability index and repair cost, as well as the number of breakdowns over the past five years. The result is a fairly objective reliability rating of crossovers of different classes and price categories. So which crossovers are the most reliable?
The most reliable SUVs and crossovers
- Renault Kadjar (95.7%)
- Ford EcoSport (93.2%)
- Mitsubishi ASX (90.7%)
- Renault Captur (90.1%)
- Lexus RX (88.2%)
- Suzuki SX4 (88.2%)
- Dacia/Renault Duster (87.6%)
- Suzuki Jimny (86.3%)
- Toyota Land Cruiser (85.7%)
- Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class (83.2%)
So, if you believe the British who compiled this rating and the clients of the company among whom the survey was conducted, the conclusion is this: the Duster is more reliable than the Land Cruiser, and the Mercedes GLE breaks down more often than the budget Ford EcoSport. And the most reliable crossover is the Renault Kadjar. And in general, when assessing the list, it turns out that Renault has the most reliable SUVs. Which are the least reliable?
Again, according to the British data, the picture is as follows:
The least reliable used crossovers and SUVs
- BMW X6 (20.6%)
- Mercedes-Benz GL-Class (22.4%)
- Porsche Cayenne (25.5%)
- Range Rover Sport (26.1%)
- Chevrolet Captiva (28.0%)
- Range Rover (29.2%)
- Audi Q7 (32.3%)
- Range Rover Evoque (42.3%)
- Land Rover Discovery Sport (46.0%)
- BMW X5 (47.2%)
In this case, it turns out that the least reliable used crossover is the BMW X6. Not much less frequently break down are also the Mercedes GL and Porsche Cayenne. In the anti-reliability rating, the “best” can be considered Discovery Sport from Land Rover and the X5 from BMW. Talking about brands, the most “problematic” off-road models are from Land Rover.
What is the overall conclusion?
Nothing new – in the modern world, a high price does not always guarantee reliability and trouble-free operation. Does this mean that you should sell your Range Rover and switch to a Duster? Of course not, the question is what you can afford and are able to maintain…
