New Ford Bronco RTR Debuts at Detroit Auto Show
Ford has introduced a new special version of its off-roader at the Detroit auto show — the 2027 Ford Bronco RTR. This model was developed in collaboration with the RTR Vehicles atelier and is planned to go on sale later this year.
The vehicle is positioned as an alternative to the powerful Bronco Raptor version, focusing on high off-road qualities but with a different powertrain. The base configuration includes a suspension with increased ground clearance and 33-inch diameter tires.
Key Features and Options
However, buyers will also be offered the popular Sasquatch Package option. It adds:
As noted, this package is likely to become the most in-demand among fans of serious off-road travel.
The Heart of the Off-Roader: Engine and Its Refinements
Under the hood, the RTR will feature the base 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, not the more powerful 2.7-liter unit. Ford explains this decision by the desire to reduce the weight of the vehicle’s front end for improved dynamics and handling on difficult terrain.
This is the same approach Ford applied when developing the Bronco Raptor, but with the addition of RTR’s signature style. It’s a well-built vehicle. We worked meticulously to give people a vehicle that will withstand everything they put it through. Because it withstood everything we put it through in Johnson Valley.
Despite the choice of the base engine, engineers made important refinements to it. In particular, a powerful 1000-watt cooling system, similar to the one used on the Bronco Raptor, was installed, as well as an anti-lag system to minimize turbo lag and ensure instant turbo response.
Bright Design and Exterior
Externally, the newcomer stands out with bold and aggressive styling. Visual changes include:
- New wheel designs.
- Bright Hyper Lime color accents.
- Aggressive graphic decals on the sides.
- Wider wheel arches.
- A black front bumper.
- Exclusive Avalanche Gray paint.
Cost and Availability
The official price for the Ford Bronco RTR has not yet been announced. The company only stated that it “won’t break the bank.” Order intake for the new model is planned to begin in October of this year.
The appearance of the Bronco RTR demonstrates a trend towards deeper personalization of production models through well-known tuning ateliers. This allows manufacturers to offer customers vehicles with unique character and equipment optimized for specific activities — in this case, serious off-roading. The success of such collaborations often depends on how successfully exclusivity, performance, and an acceptable price are balanced, the latter of which Ford is currently speaking about very promisingly.
