Buick considers replacing the fake grille with an aerodynamic shark nose for the Electra E5 EV

Buick seems to be working on an updated version of the Electra E5 crossover for China. Some variants appear to lack the pseudo-grille and have a new front end. It is said that power is provided by a well-known front-mounted engine that produces 241 hp. More than two years ago, Buick introduced this crossover, but it is already preparing a fairly significant update. As seen in new photos published by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China, some options for the electric crossover will get rid of the pseudo-grille.

This is quite a significant change, as the grille mimicked the ones found on Encore, Envision, and Enclave models. A similar design can also be seen on GL8 and Lacrosse models in China. Instead of the grille, there will be a new front end in the form of a shark fin and a more traditional lower intake. The chrome “blades” will also disappear, and we will see a new glossy black accent. Additional changes are limited, but the rear end seems to combine elements of the conventional version and the Avenir variant.

As a result, it looks like some trimmings may get a new bumper and updated taillights. Interestingly, some detailed photos show the crossover with the original grille. This suggests that both designs may be offered for the future model. Data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology indicates that much will remain the same, including the front-mounted engine that produces 241 hp, from this version, offering a speed of up to 180 km/h. However, the current model offers different battery and powertrain packages.
