Buick Saves Its Best Models for China, For Example, This SUV with a Range of Over 1,600 Kilometers

Buick has released the first details about its new Electra E7 crossover, set to debut in the first quarter. The plug-in hybrid vehicle features stylish design, a high-quality interior, and advanced autonomous technologies.

Modern and Elegant Exterior

The E7’s design looks streamlined, albeit quite versatile. The front end with the so-called “shark nose” features split lighting units: C-shaped daytime running lights are positioned on top, with L-shaped headlights below. A prominent central grille, likely with an active shutter system, is also noticeable.

The side profile is characterized by soft lines, plastic body cladding, flush-mounted door handles, pronounced wheel arches, and metal accents. The rear is adorned with “galaxy wing” LED taillights and a noticeable spoiler.

Dimensions and Placement in the Lineup

The model’s overall length is 190.9 inches (4850 mm), with a wheelbase of 112.2 inches (2850 mm). This makes the Electra E7 8.2 inches (208 mm) longer than the Envision model but 16.7 inches (424 mm) shorter than the full-size Enclave.

Minimalist and Technological Interior

The interior is executed in a minimalist style using high-quality materials, including Oeko tex upholstery and what appear to be natural metal inserts. The driver is offered a steering wheel with a flat rim and a separately positioned digital instrument cluster. The center of attention is the 15.6-inch multimedia system, mounted on the dashboard like a large tablet.

The cabin is also equipped with ambient lighting for decorative elements, dual wireless smartphone charging, and two glass roofs.

Entertainment and Comfort for Rear Passengers

Special attention is given to the rear seats. A built-in refrigerator and a 15.6-inch ceiling-mounted entertainment system are installed here. Furthermore, the front seats can be fully folded, transforming the space into a large relaxation area where passengers can lie down.

Options and features also include separate climate control for rear passengers, a rear seat recline function, heated and ventilated seats, folding tables, and a 20-speaker Dolby Atmos audio system.

Hybrid Powertrain and Specifications

Buick has confirmed that the model will receive a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The claimed total range under the CLTC cycle exceeds 994 miles (1600 km). Most importantly, on pure electric power, the crossover is capable of traveling over 130 miles (210 km).

According to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the model will be equipped with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine producing 97 horsepower, which will work in tandem with an LFP battery and a 221 horsepower electric motor. Reports indicate the possibility of several powertrain configurations.

Chassis and Autonomous Driving

Additionally, the E7 will be equipped with an adaptive suspension capable of adjusting stiffness up to 200 times per second. The car will also receive the Xiao Yao Zhi Xing autonomous driving system, which functions both on highways and city streets.

The Buick Electra E7 presentation is intended for the Chinese market, underscoring the strategic importance of this region for General Motors. The emphasis on extended electric range and luxurious rear-seat amenities clearly points to the target audience – affluent family buyers who value comfort and technology. The success of this model could be an important step for Buick in strengthening its position in the electric vehicle market and expanding the Electra lineup.
