Bubbles are wonderful in champagne, but undesirable on the windshield of a Nissan

Large-scale recall of new Nissan Sentra

Nissan has initiated a recall of over 40,000 Sentra sedans from the 2025 model year due to a potentially dangerous windshield defect. The vehicles may have air bubbles in the glass, which significantly limits the driver’s visibility and violates federal safety standards.

Technical details of the problem

An investigation established that the cause of the defect lies in misaligned positioning pins on the molds used for windshield production. As stated in the official documents:

Incorrect alignment can lead to uneven pressure distribution in the upper part of the glass, which prevents the proper removal of air during assembly.

Detection and investigation of the defect

The problem was first detected during a routine inspection at the Aguas II plant in Mexico in August, when technicians noticed air cavities between the layers of glass and the polyvinyl butyral film. Nissan began a joint investigation with the glass supplier, Vitro, which identified the root cause.

Statistics and consequences

According to the manufacturer’s estimate, the defect is present in approximately 2.2% of the recalled vehicles. It is important to note that the company has not recorded any warranty claims or accidents related to this issue. However, the presence of bubbles violates safety requirements regarding the permissible size of glass defects.

Defect repair process

Dealerships will conduct a free inspection of the windshield for the presence of air inclusions and replace it if necessary. The replacement process can take up to 2.5 hours. Owners will be able to independently detect bubbles in the glass before receiving official notifications, which are planned for mid-January.

This recall demonstrates how important quality control is at all stages of production, especially when it comes to safety components. Although the problem was detected in time, it could affect consumer confidence in the new model, which received positive reviews for its features. Automakers will have to not only fix the technical flaw but also restore their reputation through transparent communication with customers.
