Dacia’s Budget Hits Receive Serious Update

Model Range Update

Dacia has introduced a facelift for the subcompact hatchback Sandero, the Sandero Stepway crossover, the Logan sedan, and the Jogger crossover-estate. The mechanically related models have received an updated design, improved interior technology, and new powertrain options, while retaining their budget-friendly character.

Model History and Evolution

The current Sandero and Logan debuted in 2020, and the Jogger appeared in 2021. In 2022, the models received a new brand identity, and in 2024 – slightly improved ADAS systems, but Dacia decided to introduce a more extensive mid-life cycle update.

Exterior Changes

Visually, the new models look quite familiar to the untrained eye, but the redesigned LED elements, radiator grilles, and bumpers give them a more modern look. The previous Y-shaped daytime running lights have been replaced by thinner light signatures, which are reflected in the clear rear lights (except for the Logan).

A thinner front grille is combined with new air intakes on the bumpers, making the Sandero and Logan more interesting. Of course, the Sandero Stepway and Jogger are distinguished by underbody protection and additional plastic cladding, which are now made from partially recycled Starkle material. Furthermore, new alloy wheel designs and wheel trims have appeared, as well as two new body colors – Amber Yellow and Sandstone.

Interior Updates

In the interior, the main innovation is a significantly larger 10-inch infotainment display (replacing the 8-inch one), available in top trims, while base models retain the classic smartphone holder. The 7-inch digital instrument cluster has received updated graphics and is paired with a redesigned steering wheel, available wireless charging, a YouClip accessory mounting system, and more durable fabric upholstery.

Safety Improvements

In terms of safety, all models have received driver assistance systems required by the latest European standards, including an improved automatic emergency braking system and driver fatigue warning. The driver can always configure the ADAS settings using a dedicated “My Safety” button. Additionally, the optional Driving Pack adds automatic lighting, a multi-view camera, and power-folding door mirrors for the flagship Journey and Extreme trims.

New Powertrains

The Sandero, Sandero Stepway, Logan, and Jogger are still built on the CMF-B architecture, which is common for the entire Dacia lineup with internal combustion engines and has been used by various Renault, Nissan, and Mitsubishi models.

The main change is the addition of the Hybrid 155 powertrain for the Jogger, which will also be offered for the Sandero Stepway from the fourth quarter of 2026. This self-charging hybrid system is already available in the Duster and Bigster SUVs, offering a combined output of 153 hp and 170 Nm of torque. It includes a 1.8-liter petrol four-cylinder engine, two electric motors, a 1.4 kWh battery, and an automatic clutchless gearbox. According to Dacia, it can operate in electric mode up to 80% of the time in urban conditions.

Other Engine Options

All four models are available with the Eco-G 120 option, which features a new turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine that produces 120 hp and runs on both petrol and LPG. It can be paired with a six-speed manual or a six-speed dual-clutch automated gearbox. Dacia has increased the LPG tank sizes compared to previous versions, increasing the total range to 1590 km between refuelings.

Finally, there are several petrol-only options. The Sandero and Logan are equipped with a 1.0-liter naturally aspirated engine producing 65 hp or a slightly improved turbocharged version with 100 hp. The latter is also available for the Sandero Stepway and Jogger with a higher output of 110 hp.

Pricing and Market Position

Dacia has not yet announced prices but stated that the updated Sandero family will offer “an even greater price-to-feature ratio, which remains unique in the market.” The subcompact hatchback holds the title of “best-selling retail car in Europe” since 2017, with a record 309,392 sales in 2024, including the Sandero Stepway, which accounts for about two-thirds of the total.

This update reflects Dacia’s strategy of gradually improving its models while maintaining affordability, which has ensured their popularity in the European market. The increase in technology and the addition of hybrid options show the brand’s adaptation to modern demands without losing its key advantage – a favorable price. Such steps could intensify competition in the budget car segment, especially considering the growing demand for more environmentally friendly solutions.
