Budget Electric Vehicle That Quietly Overtook All Foreign Competitors in China

Nissan N7 Becomes Sales Leader Among Foreign Brands in China

In June, the Nissan N7 electric sedan surpassed competitors from Buick and Toyota to become the most popular model among foreign brands in China. It also turned out to be the most successful electric vehicle from a non-Chinese manufacturer.

Initially, the Nissan N7 was criticized for its resemblance to the Chinese Xpeng P7, but this did not stop buyers. The model outperformed the Buick GL8 and Toyota Platinum 3X in a fierce battle for leadership. Other foreign brands, such as Volkswagen, Smart, and BMW, lagged significantly behind in performance.

“This is an important success for Nissan, especially considering the joint production with Chinese Dongfeng,” the analytical data states.

Technical Features and Prices

The base version N7 510 Pro costs approximately $17,800 and is equipped with a 58 kWh battery, providing up to 510 km of range. The top trim 625 Max offers a 73 kWh battery and 625 km of range, but real-world figures may vary due to the specifics of Chinese testing.

The model is targeted at young family buyers: 68% of owners are men, 74% are married, and 60% are younger than 35 years old. Currently, the N7 is only available in China, but Nissan is exploring the possibility of entering other markets under a different name.

This success could be a catalyst for Nissan’s revival in the global electric vehicle market, especially after recent financial difficulties. Meanwhile, competitors such as Toyota and Volkswagen are already preparing a response to the challenge from the new segment leader.
