Caterham has unveiled a special edition Seven dedicated to the Nürburgring
Just a few weeks after unveiling a special edition Seven to celebrate the Miami Grand Prix, small automaker Caterham has introduced a limited-edition model dedicated to the Nürburgring. The premiere took place ahead of the grueling 24-hour race on the world’s most challenging track.
Limited series and technical features
Caterham will produce only 100 units of the Nürburgring Edition, available based on the Seven 340R or Seven 420R. Each car will be equipped with a special Bilstein suspension, developed for the German track but suitable for use on regular roads.
The car’s exterior features official Nürburgring branding, a bright red roll bar, and a distinctive front grille. Buyers can order the model in Verkehrsrot (Signal Red), Achatgrau (Agate Gray), or Basaltgrau (Basalt Gray), or choose a custom color.
Some minor changes have been made to the interior as well: Nürburgring embroidery on leather seats, red stitching, sequential gear shift indicators, four-point racing seat belts, and a few carbon fiber elements.
Caterham’s history at the Nürburgring
The 2.0-liter four-cylinder Ford Duratec engine remains unchanged, so it continues to produce 210 hp at 7600 rpm and 203 Nm of torque at 6300 rpm. The car weighs just 560 kg and can accelerate to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, reaching a top speed of 136 mph.
Why did Caterham create a car in honor of the Nürburgring? Besides the fact that the famous track will celebrate its 100th anniversary next year, Caterham actually participated in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring back in 2002. Among the team of four drivers was automotive journalist Chris Harris. The car not only won its class by a margin of over 10 laps but also finished 11th overall, which is an impressive result given its relatively modest power.
The price for the Caterham Seven Nürburgring Edition will start at £48,995 (approximately $65,200 USD).
This special series is not only a tribute to the legendary track but also a reminder of the Seven model’s own glorious racing history. The fact that a lightweight and relatively low-powered car managed to secure 11th place overall in the 24-hour race highlights the genius of its design and the skill of its drivers. For modern buyers, the Nürburgring Edition will become not just a car but a true collector’s item, combining the spirit of competition with the unique driving experience that only a Caterham can offer. The limited series and special suspension tuning make this model particularly desirable for enthusiasts who value authenticity and a connection to motorsport history.
