Renault’s Plan for Megane E-Tech
Renault intends to increase sales of the electric Megane E-Tech, which remains in the shadow of the popular retro models 4 and 5. The company’s CEO, Fabrice Cambolive, stated that the car will receive a larger battery and a sporty design to attract more attention. The updated version is expected within 6-9 months.
Sporty Direction
Renault plans to create a hot hatchback based on the Megane E-Tech. As Auto Express reports, Cambolive noted:
We are striving to create a sporty hatchback; this is precisely the direction we are moving in.
In addition to the design, the update will include a larger battery. Currently, the Megane has a 60 kWh battery with a range of 285 miles, but the new version may receive a battery similar to the one installed in the Scenic (87 kWh) or Nissan Leaf (75 kWh).
Technical Improvements
Although details regarding engine power are not disclosed, changes are possible to create a true hot hatch. For example, the VW ID.3 GTX has a 322 hp engine, which significantly surpasses the current Megane’s figures. However, Renault emphasizes that external changes should reflect the technical updates.
Design and Possible Return of Renaultsport
More aggressive bumpers are expected, possibly larger wheels and updated LED lights. Furthermore, Cambolive hinted at a possible revival of the Renaultsport brand, which was previously used for sporty models. Although no specific details have been provided on this yet, the company promises to present proposals within the next year.
These changes could significantly increase the competitiveness of the Megane E-Tech in the electric car market, especially among enthusiasts of dynamic driving. The integration of a larger battery and a sporty design could provide a better balance between practicality and emotional engagement, which is key to success in the modern automotive sector.
