The 2025 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison Impressed Me with Both Pleasant and Unexpected Moments

Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison: An Off-Roader That Requires No Compromises

Chevrolet Colorado proves that mid-size pickups can be not only practical but also incredibly capable off-road. Although the market is predominantly captivated by larger models, Colorado has found its niche thanks to a successful combination of features. In 2024, sales of this model increased by 37.9%, indicating its popularity.

The best version in the lineup is the ZR2 Bison — a modification that combines all the advantages of the standard ZR2 with additional equipment for true off-road enthusiasts. It is equipped with a DSSV Multimatic suspension, 35-inch tires, underbody protection, and other upgrades that make it one of the best in its class.

Technical Specifications

Design and Interior

Externally, the Bison looks aggressive thanks to its wide wheel arches, underbody protection, and massive tires. Inside, the driver will find comfortable seats, physical buttons for controlling main functions, and a modern multimedia system with Android Auto. However, some elements, such as glossy plastics, collect dust, which can be annoying.

Driving Qualities

On the road, the Colorado ZR2 Bison behaves quite comfortably, but its true element is off-road. The Multimatic suspension handles bumps excellently, and the Terrain and Baja modes allow it to adapt to any terrain. The only drawback is the noisy engine, which can be irritating during prolonged use.

Disadvantages

The biggest problem is the placement of the spare tire. It is mounted on the side of the body and seriously limits the view through the rearview mirror. Surprisingly, such an expensive version lacks the option of a digital mirror, which could have solved this problem.

The Colorado ZR2 Bison is the perfect choice for those who want a powerful but not overly large off-roader. It is less powerful than the Ford Ranger Raptor but surpasses it in off-road capability. If you don’t need all the Bison’s features, it’s worth considering the standard ZR2 — it’s cheaper and almost matches its capabilities.
