Chevrolet Introduced a New Affordable Off-Roader, But It’s Not Available for Everyone

Chevrolet Prepares a New Compact SUV for South America

Chevrolet has provided the first look at a new compact SUV model, which is set to debut in 2026. Although the car’s name has not yet been disclosed, it is known that it will be produced at the Gravataí plant in Brazil, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary. This launch is part of an investment plan worth 1.2 billion Brazilian reals (approximately 215.5 million dollars), aimed at modernizing production facilities.

Images show that the new SUV will get separate LED headlights, a wide radiator grille, and a restrained roof spoiler. The rear is equipped with slim LED taillights, and the overall proportions indicate a higher ground clearance compared to the Onix hatchback. The model is expected to receive a turbocharged 1.0-liter engine with the ability to use fuel with varying ethanol content, producing up to 121 hp, paired with a manual or automatic transmission.

Market Positioning

The new model will take its place in the lineup below the updated Chevrolet Tracker, which is 4,270 mm long. For comparison, the Onix hatchback is 4,163 mm long. The car will compete with models such as the VW Tera, Renault Kardian, and Citroen Basalt, which are also based on compact hatchbacks but offer greater practicality.

Designed 100% for South American consumers

This statement by GM South America President Santiago Chamorro confirms that the model is not planned for export outside the region. The 2026 update for the Tracker will include exterior changes, a new digital instrument panel, and chassis improvements, making the Chevrolet lineup more modern and competitive in the compact SUV market.

Production of the new SUV will begin next year, and it will become an important player in the segment of affordable crossovers. Considering the investments in production and the focus on the local market, Chevrolet demonstrates serious intentions to strengthen its position in South America, where the demand for compact SUVs continues to grow.
