Updates to the Peugeot 308 Model Range
Peugeot recently introduced the updated 308 in hatchback and estate body styles, which is already available on European markets. After analyzing the official configurator, it was revealed that the base Style trim has significant standard equipment and one interesting feature that the flagship GT Exclusive version lacks.
Physical Climate Control Buttons
This refers to the physical climate controls, which are represented by two rotary switches and several buttons located below the central touch screen. This configuration is available in the Style, Business, and Allure trims. However, the GT and GT Exclusive models received touch-sensitive “Peugeot i-toggles” quick keys. This means that to adjust the temperature, one must look at the screen and touch the desired area, which can be distracting while driving.
Base Version Equipment
Interestingly, the most accessible 308 Style trim standardly receives a 10-inch multimedia system and a 10-inch digital instrument panel, although it uses less quality materials compared to higher trims. The equipment also includes dual-zone climate control, rear parking sensors, power-folding and heated mirrors, and a six-speaker audio system.
Furthermore, the exterior retains the sporty bumpers and fully LED lighting, presented as part of the update, combined with black 16-inch alloy wheels.
Flagship GT Exclusive Trim
At the opposite end of the spectrum is the flagship Peugeot 308 GT Exclusive trim, which features diamond-cut 18-inch alloy wheels, sharper side skirts, a corresponding front bumper extension, and an illuminated section on the grille that combines with the illuminated Peugeot logo and matrix LED headlights.
Inside, the GT Exclusive is equipped with an updated instrument panel with 3D graphics, interior ambient lighting, Alcantara upholstery, and the 360 Vision & Drive Assist Plus Pack, which provides Level 2 autonomous driving capabilities. Options include a 10-speaker Focal audio system, a sunroof, wireless smartphone charging, all-season tires, and a retractable tow hitch.
Powertrain Options and Prices
The updated Peugeot 308 is available with mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and all-electric powertrains. The most powerful version is the PHEV with a combined output of 192 hp. The Style trim is only available for mild-hybrid and all-electric variants, so those who want a PHEV and physical climate controls must move up to the Business or Allure trims.
The most affordable Peugeot 308 Style Hybrid 145 in France starts from €28,390, while the flagship GT Exclusive trim with the same engine costs €33,277. The most expensive option is the 308 GT Exclusive Plug-in Hybrid 195 priced at €39,780, which is €461 more than the equivalent Electrique 156.
Market Trends and Future Expectations
Fortunately, most automakers have realized that customers want regular buttons and switches for key functions instead of having to navigate complex multimedia system menus or use touch-sensitive controls. In this context, it is expected that future Stellantis models will receive a practical solution for climate control – from the base trim to the flagship versions.
Interestingly, even in the digital age, base versions of cars sometimes offer more convenient solutions than their more expensive counterparts. This shows how manufacturers balance innovation and practicality, taking into account consumer feedback. The growing popularity of physical controls may influence the design of future models not only within Stellantis but across the entire automotive industry.
