DeLorean Alpha5: NFT reservations and uncertain details
The company DeLorean plans to release a limited series of Alpha5 electric vehicles in the quantity of 4000 units. However, to order one of them, buyers will have to go through an unusual procedure: purchase an NFT for $2500, which will grant the right to reserve a spot in the production queue.
This approach raises questions, as the company has not yet presented the production version of the car or disclosed the final technical specifications. Moreover, the current DeLorean Motor Company has no relation to the original manufacturer of the iconic DMC-12—it emerged from a business selling spare parts and providing maintenance services.
How the reservation system works
To participate in the pre-order program, you need to:
So far, only six such NFTs have been sold, indicating caution among potential customers. If you change your mind, the NFT can be resold on the company’s platform.
Technical features of the Alpha5
Preliminary data about the car remains unofficial. The prototype claimed:
- Two electric motors
- Acceleration to 60 mph in 2.99 seconds
- Range of 300 miles
- 100 kWh battery capacity
The final price and exact technical parameters have not yet been disclosed. Considering the history of the original DeLorean and current trends in the electric vehicle world, the success of this project will depend not only on technology but also on consumer trust in the unusual NFT-based sales system.
