Chrysler May Gradually Abandon Plans to Fully Switch to Electric Vehicles

Chrysler Delays Electric Plans

The Chrysler company, which back in 2022 promised to launch its first electric vehicle by 2025 and fully transition to an electric lineup by 2028, is now indefinitely postponing these plans. This is happening against the backdrop of a general trend among automakers, who are also changing their electric strategies due to slower-than-expected growth in electric car sales.

Currently, Chrysler offers only two outdated minivan models — the Voyager and the Pacifica, which are essentially the same vehicle. The brand needs an update, but the planned electric crossover for 2026 has been postponed.

New Platforms and Experiments

Chrysler’s owner, the Stellantis conglomerate, plans to use the new STLA Medium and STLA Large platforms to revive the brand. These platforms support various types of engines, including electric, hybrid, and traditional ones.

We are going to experiment with the brand. There are untapped opportunities in our portfolio that we can fill with Chrysler

An updated version of the Pacifica minivan is expected to appear in 2026 with a new design inspired by the Halcyon concept. However, for a full-fledged return to the market, Chrysler will need not only an update of the old model but also new cars that will truly interest buyers.

The brand’s current state shows that even large automakers face difficulties in transitioning to electric technologies. Chrysler is at a crossroads, and its future will depend on how successfully Stellantis can implement its plans and adapt to market changes. The STLA platforms open up new opportunities, but success will depend on the right strategy and timing.
