Rumors about Mercedes and BMW collaboration debunked
The German automaker Mercedes-Benz has denied information about a possible deal with BMW regarding the joint use of engines. Earlier reports had appeared that the companies were discussing a partnership to reduce costs in connection with the gradual transition to electric vehicles.
Mercedes’ own developments
Mercedes Chief Technology Officer Markus Schäfer stated that the brand has its own modular engine family FAME, which already meets future environmental standards of the EU, China, and the USA. This means the company does not plan to use BMW engines for its future models.
“We have developed our own new family of modular engines that covers all displacements and is already ready to meet EU7, China 7, and US standards,” Schäfer noted.
New technologies and future models
Mercedes is already using its own four-cylinder engines in new models, such as the CLA, and plans to expand their use to other cars on the MMA platform. The hybrid systems include electric motors and batteries, ensuring efficiency and compliance with modern requirements.
This situation highlights how competitive the automotive industry market remains, where every manufacturer tries to preserve its technological advantages and uniqueness. Developing its own engines allows Mercedes to control quality and innovation, which could become a key factor in future competitions with other premium brands.
