The electric dragster Ford Racing Mustang Cobra Jet 2200 set a new benchmark, covering a quarter mile (402 m) in 6.76 seconds and reaching a speed of 357 km/h. This is the best result among electric vehicles in this format. The official website of the automaker reports.
Ford Racing Mustang Cobra Jet 2200 results on the drag strip
The car was first shown publicly at the NHRA competition in Charlotte. It was there that the official track time and top speed were recorded, confirming the performance in real-world conditions.
The model is a continuation of the development of previous Cobra Jet 1400 and Super Cobra Jet 1800 projects, which were used to test electric traction in drag racing.
Mustang Cobra Jet 2200 technical features
The powertrain consists of two electric motors with a total power of 2200 hp and a torque of 1817 Nm. A 5-speed transmission without a clutch is used to transmit traction, together with the RACC system, which controls the power delivery to the wheels.
The design was lightened as much as possible through a tubular frame, carbon fiber body, and special components. Compared to the previous version, the weight was significantly reduced.
Special attention was paid to safety: a pyro-fuse is installed that disconnects the high-voltage system in the event of an accident. The car was created as an engineering project to refine electric technologies in drag racing.
