Is this a new WRX from Subaru, or something much cooler?

Subaru is preparing a new sports model

Subaru hints at the release of a new sports model, likely an updated version of the WRX. The prototype will be unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2025. The company is also developing a new boxer engine and an enhanced all-wheel-drive system.

During the 24-hour race at Fuji Speedway, Subaru’s technical director Tetsuo Fujinuki confirmed that the new model will feature an upgraded version of the all-wheel-drive system used in the Super Taikyu racing series. He called the upcoming car “appealing” but did not disclose details.

“We want to value customers who choose Subaru. We will continue to make cars that help them do so,” Fujinuki stated.

What is known about the new model

A teaser image reveals an aggressive design with wide fenders, a large grille, and a vented hood. The exact body type (sedan or hatchback) has not yet been confirmed, but the design is clearly focused on high dynamic performance.

The new boxer engine will be compatible with E20 eco-fuel. Subaru, Toyota, and Mazda are collaborating to preserve traditional engines while integrating them with electric vehicle technologies.

The current generation WRX debuted in 2021. The updated version is expected to retain the brand’s sporty character despite the general trend toward electrification. Details will be revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show in late October.

Subaru traditionally targets enthusiasts who appreciate the brand’s unique technical solutions. The new model will likely continue this approach, combining classic features with modern technologies. Particular attention is drawn to the development of the new engine, which aims to satisfy both fans of traditional cars and environmental standards.
