Mercedes-AMG is preparing a powerful electric SUV
Despite skepticism from traditional engine enthusiasts, Mercedes-AMG is actively developing a new electric SUV. Recent spy photos reveal key features of the upcoming model, which will compete with the Lotus Eletre and Porsche Cayenne EV.
The car appears lower than conventional SUVs, resembling more of a large crossover like the Ferrari Purosangue. The design is well camouflaged, but the contours of a massive radiator grille and headlights are noticeable. The side view stands out with black wheels, orange brake calipers, and tires sized 285/40 at the front and 325/35 at the rear.
Technical features
The new model will be built on the dedicated AMG-EA platform with an aluminum structure and an 800-volt system. This will ensure fast charging and high efficiency. The car will feature next-generation electric motors from the British company Yasa, with each motor producing up to 480 hp.
The top version with three motors is expected to exceed 1000 hp, making it the most powerful model in AMG’s history
The rear of the prototype is still hidden with temporary elements, but the window shape resembles the Kia EV6. Other features include hidden door handles and dual charging ports, which may be useful for bidirectional charging.
The presentation of the new electric SUV from AMG is expected in 2026, with sales starting as a 2027 model. This car is set to become the brand’s new technological flagship, combining high performance with cutting-edge electric solutions. It will be particularly interesting to see how engineers handle weight and weight distribution in such a powerful SUV, as this has always been a key challenge for high-performance electric models.
