Nissan introduces a 10-year warranty in Australia
Nissan in Australia has launched a 10-year warranty program for all its models. However, to receive the additional five years of warranty, vehicles must be serviced at official brand dealerships. This significantly differs from the situation in the USA, where the standard warranty for new Nissan cars is only three years or 36,000 miles.
In the first 30 days after the program’s launch, Nissan Australia received over 2,500 service applications. The company’s management emphasizes that such a strategy helps dealers cover rising costs and increases customer loyalty.
“In terms of revenue for the dealer network, this is quite impressive,” noted Andrew Humberstone, head of Nissan Oceania.
Should Nissan introduce a similar warranty in the USA?
In the USA, only a few brands, such as Genesis, Hyundai, Kia, Cadillac, and Mitsubishi, offer warranties for new cars lasting up to five years. Most manufacturers limit warranties to three years, with the option to extend the powertrain warranty. The question of whether Nissan should introduce an extended warranty in the USA remains open.
The Australian experience shows that such programs can be effective in attracting customers and supporting the dealer network. However, the success of such a strategy in other markets, including the USA, may depend on many factors, including consumer habits and competition. Perhaps Nissan should consider similar steps to strengthen its position in the global market.
