Will the V6 remain in the Alfa Romeo for new Giulia and Stelvio models?

  • The head of PR Alfa Romeo stated that the company might keep its in-house produced V6 internal combustion engine.
  • The decision to continue using this engine might be driven by consumer demand.
  • It is possible that it will remain exclusive to the Quadrifoglio models, but this has already become customary.

Car manufacturers are known for downplaying the impact they actually have on the market. They like to talk about “responding to consumer demand,” but in reality, their profit-increasing teams spend a significant amount of time and effort convincing the public to buy what they want them to buy.

However, sometimes customers make enough noise to force even the most profit-oriented companies to listen. This is the kind of influence that might make Alfa Romeo keep its 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6, which in its current form produces 505 hp (377 kW / 512 PS) and 443 lb-ft (600 Nm) of torque.

Alfa is already moving in a direction that doesn’t entirely excite customers. We already know that _______, will likely return not as a sedan but as a _____. Moreover, we are sure that hybrid and electric powertrains are also on the way, as the company recently confirmed. This raises the question: what will the top Quadrifoglio model be like?

Alfa’s doubts about switching to electric

Speaking to _________, Cristiano Fiorio, head of marketing and public relations at Alfa Romeo, hinted that, despite some reports, _________ won’t be rushing into a full electric switch anytime soon.

“Personally, I don’t see an EV for the Quadrifoglio. I see a Quadrifoglio with the sound of a real engine. For now. Maybe in five years, things will change. But for now, to me and our team, the Quadrifoglio should be something with a roar,” he said.

Why not go in this direction when sister brand Dodge so easily gave up its revered V8 in the new Charger and replaced it with electric motors? The answer lies in Alfa’s customer base. “This is something expressed by the fans – the customers – as the penetration of Quadrifoglio in many markets is very interesting. Therefore, we have to keep giving customers what they want,” he explained.

Fiorio even went so far as to explain that the V6 might fit the STLA Large platform, on which ________ and Giulia are based – which is certainly great news for Alfa fans, as well as petrolheads who won’t even consider EVs, no matter how fast it might be or how well it handles.
