New flagship electric BMW iX7 crossover spotted during testing
German automakers have recently unveiled a whole range of large crossovers. Mercedes showed the updated GLS in March, and the revamped Audi Q7 appeared at the beginning of this month, followed by the Q9 later this year. Now it’s BMW’s turn: the updated X7 will debut in 2027, and along with it, the all-new electric iX7 will appear, which recently fell into the lenses of spy photographers.
Design inspired by the i7 and iX5
The new model will follow the style of the new iX5, but with a design that closely resembles the updated i7. The crossover will get distinctive twin kidney grilles surrounded by split lighting units. Minimalist daytime running lights are located at the top, while the main headlights are shifted towards the center.
On the sides, it is noticeable that the door handles have been replaced with so-called “BMW Winglets.” They require the “lightest touch to open the doors with electric drive.”

Additionally, the car has large wheels and a smoothly sloping roof. Designers also provided long rear doors, which should make it easier to get in and out of the third row of seats.
The rear part seems to replicate the style of the iX5, but the flagship crossover has unique taillights. The bumper has also become more refined and conventional.
Interior with Panoramic iDrive
The cabin will be equipped with the Panoramic iDrive system, which means having a screen almost the entire width at the bottom of the windshield. It will likely be complemented by a 17.9-inch infotainment system and an available 14.6-inch display for the front passenger.
The latter can be used for everything from gaming to watching streaming videos. Users will also be able to listen to music or make video calls using the car’s interior camera.

Expected specifications and power
The details of the powertrain remain a mystery for now, but the iX5 60 xDrive gives a fairly clear idea of what to expect. The five-seat crossover has a 141 kWh battery pack that powers a dual-motor all-wheel drive system producing 570 hp (425 kW / 578 PS) and 594 lb-ft (805 Nm) of torque.
This allows the model to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4.6 seconds, reach a limited top speed of 130 mph (210 km/h), and have an estimated EPA range of 435 miles (700 km). The crossover also supports fast DC charging at 460 kW, allowing the battery to be charged from 10% to 80% in just 23 minutes.
One can also expect more powerful electric versions, as well as a variety of internal combustion engines in the regular X7.
Thus, BMW is preparing a true flagship among electric crossovers, which is set to combine advanced technologies, impressive range, and a luxurious interior. The arrival of the iX7 will be an important step in the Bavarian brand’s electrification strategy, allowing it to compete with the best premium representatives, such as the Mercedes EQS SUV and the future Audi Q9 e-tron. Considering the technical specifications borrowed from the iX5, the new product promises to be not only comfortable but also a highly dynamic car, capable of satisfying the most discerning customers.
