Honda Civic Type R to Receive HRC Components and Appear in America

New HRC Parts for Honda Civic Type R

The Honda Civic Type R, widely regarded as one of the best front-wheel-drive hot hatches on the market, is set to become even more exciting. The head of Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) has confirmed that components from last year‘s HRC concept will go into production and become available later this year.

Concept Unveiling and Future Plans

Honda unveiled the Civic Type R HRC concept at the Tokyo Auto Salon in January. The car featured striking camouflage, an updated front bumper, new wheel arches, pronounced side skirts, an enhanced rear wing, and a new rear diffuser. The package also included an Akrapovic exhaust. At that time, there were no confirmations about Honda’s future plans, but during the recent Honda All Type R World Meeting at Motegi circuit, HRC head Koji Watanabe stated that the car would reach the market.

Asked by Car Watch about the model‘s release date, Watanabe noted that it uses technologies honed in the Super Endurance and Super GT races and suggested that the release is only a few months away.

Availability in the US

Watanabe added that the Civic Type R will not be sold in a flagship HRC version. Instead, customers will be able to purchase individual racing parts. Importantly, these will be available not only in Japan: he noted that the components are also being developed for the US market.

“We hope to deliver them as soon as possible,” he said.

Growth of the Sports Parts Program

Honda has openly expressed its desire to start selling sports components for some of its models. In late 2024, the company launched a specialized racing parts division, initially showcasing a range of aerodynamic updates for the Acura Integra Type S. At that time, Honda emphasized that the parts must meet safety regulations before they can be offered to owners, and ensuring compliance could be a lengthy process. Fortunately, approval appears to be imminent.

This news indicates that Honda continues to invest in the development of its sports division, offering brand enthusiasts the opportunity to personalize their cars with race-proven components. The decision to sell parts individually, rather than as a single package version, gives owners more flexibility and allows for gradual vehicle upgrades tailored to their preferences. Additionally, plans for entry into the US market highlight global demand for such enhancements, which could strengthen the Civic Type R’s position as one of the most technologically advanced hot hatches in the world.
