The most dangerous cities for drivers in the USA
Boston has been recognized as the most dangerous city for drivers in the USA. According to the study, drivers in Boston get into accidents on average every 3.1 years. For comparison, in the safest cities this figure is 14.2 years, while the national average is 10.5 years.
Following Boston are Washington (3.9 years), Baltimore (4.2 years), Worcester (4.3 years), and Springfield (4.6 years). Overall, the five most dangerous cities are located in the country’s Northeast. California cities such as Glendale, Los Angeles, and Oakland also made the top ten riskiest.
The safest cities for drivers
The fewest accidents occur in Brownsville (Texas), where drivers can go an average of 14.2 years without an incident. It is followed by Boise (Idaho) — 13.9 years, Fort Collins (Colorado) — 13.4 years, Cary (North Carolina) — 12.9 years, and Laredo (Texas) — 12.8 years.
The study is based on insurance claim data from 2022–2023, so it does not account for minor accidents without serious consequences. However, the results clearly show where drivers should be especially careful.
Interestingly, some cities previously considered relatively safe have significantly worsened their indicators. For example, Omaha (Nebraska) dropped from 26th place to 96th, and Minneapolis (Minnesota) fell from 81st to 160th. This may indicate an increase in traffic intensity or changes in the infrastructure of these cities.
