It looks like a Honda, but it’s actually a Hyundai

Hyundai Obsidian Student Concept

A student from the Munich University of Applied Sciences in Germany created the Hyundai Obsidian concept—a five-door sports car with a monolithic design and a luxurious interior. Its styling resembles the Honda 0 Saloon electric concept, sparking both admiration and debate.

Sometimes the best ideas are born not in the offices of experienced designers but in the minds of students with fresh perspectives. This was the case when Hyundai collaborated with a German university, tasking students with designing an innovative car of the future.

“What could be the next rich experience for Hyundai drivers?”—this was the challenge given to students by Eduardo Ramirez, Head of Design at Hyundai Europe.

Design and Features

The winning project was by Dominik Anders, who combined space, luxury, and a sporty character in the Obsidian. The car features a low silhouette, a flat hood with pixel LED headlights, and active aerodynamic elements. Red accents on large-diameter wheels add aggression, while a wide diffuser completes the look.

Technical details remain unknown, as the Obsidian is just a design project. However, its proportions and closed surfaces suggest a possible electric future. The interior is also hidden behind tinted windows.

The concept was presented at the Car Design Event 2025 in Munich alongside other Hyundai and Kia novelties. Although the Obsidian was called “incredibly beautiful,” its resemblance to the upcoming production Honda 0 Saloon raises questions about uniqueness. For now, the project remains an exhibition piece with no plans for production.

This work demonstrates how student initiatives can influence automotive design by offering bold solutions. Hyundai seems open to such experiments, which may lead to unexpected concepts in the future.
