Acura NSX Type S sold for a higher price than the original cost
Although the Acura NSX was not commercially successful in North America, collectors are willing to pay large sums for special versions. A yellow unit of this hybrid supercar was sold for $32 thousand above the starting price, and this is not the only such case.
This model differs from the standard NSX in two key ways. First, it has very low mileage—only 1,700 miles. Second, it is the Type S version, which was produced in a limited series of 350 units, with 300 intended for the U.S. This is why it became the subject of fierce competition among enthusiasts.
What makes the Type S version special?
The Type S received an updated design that not only improved its appearance but also increased aerodynamic efficiency. Under the hood is a more powerful hybrid engine with 600 hp, as well as alloy wheels that extended the wheelbase. The additional Lightweight Package reduced the weight by 26 kg thanks to carbon brakes, hood, and interior elements.
Interestingly, another Type S unit with only 704 miles was sold for $265 thousand, indicating steady demand for these rare cars.
Recent auction results show that the value of limited-edition NSX Type S versions is only increasing. Over the past six months, at least four such cars have been sold for over $200 thousand, making them a profitable investment.
The popularity of these models among collectors may be linked not only to their technical specifications but also to their limited production. NSX production ended in 2022, and the Type S version became a kind of “swan song” for this lineup, further increasing its value.
