The Updated BMW 7 Series Can Withstand Even a Grenade Explosion
Once upon a time, an armored car looked like a real tank and attracted too much attention, which was not always desirable for the owner. Today, discreet protection has become part of a luxury car. For example, you can travel in a reinforced BMW 7-Series, which looks ordinary on the outside but is capable of withstanding gunfire and small explosions.
The company Inkas, behind this project, has upgraded the luxury sedan to the ballistic standard BR6. This means the car can stop bullets from high-velocity rifles, such as the AK-47, and also withstand the explosion of a hand grenade – a feature rarely seen in the brochure of a regular executive sedan.
Armoring Details and Additional Options
Armoring specialists reinforced the entire passenger compartment with BR6-level armor, installed military ballistic glass, and an armored door overlap system. The battery and electronic control module are also protected from bullets and explosions, a military-class run-flat tire system is installed, and the fuel tank is housed in an armored casing.
This luxury SUV withstood 400 shots from laser-guided weapons.
For those seeking maximum protection, additional options are available: reinforced engine compartment armor, a fire suppression system, an emergency roof hatch. The car can also be equipped with a night vision camera, a video surveillance system, LED strobe lights, reinforced wheels, an oxygen filtration system, and reinforced front and rear bumpers.
Power and Discreetness
The Canadian company Inkas does not disclose how much the armor has increased the car’s weight, but it is obviously significantly heavier than the standard model. Fortunately, it is based on the top-of-the-line 760i version with a 4.4-liter bi-turbo V8 engine producing 536 horsepower, providing sufficient power regardless of weight.
Furthermore, an important aspect remains discreetness. Depending on the chosen options, the armored 7-Series can look almost indistinguishable from a regular model, except for small red and blue flashing lights integrated into the front bumper.
The development of armoring technologies for civilian cars demonstrates how security needs are changing in the modern world. An offering that was once an exclusive for statesmen or the military is now becoming available to private individuals who value discreetness along with the highest level of protection. It also points to the growing complexity of engineering solutions, where powerful powertrains must compensate for a significant increase in mass without losing dynamic qualities. Such cars essentially blur the line between civilian luxury and specialized military equipment, offering a unique combination of comfort, performance, and survival in extreme conditions.
