This Two-Door G-Wagen Feels Like a Very Expensive Joke Only Eight People Will Get

The Endurance of an Automotive Icon

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is an automotive icon so enduring that it managed to post record sales in 2025, in its 49th year of existence. Nearly five decades on, this “box on wheels” is still raking in big money. Not bad for something that started life as a genuine military tool and now spends its time outside five-star hotels.

And yet, for some buyers, the standard G-Class simply isn’t enough. They want something rarer, louder, and a little less sensible. In this case—something almost incomparable to anything else on the road.

Mansory’s Gronos Coupe Mercedes G-Class Looks More Like A Toy Than A Real Car

Unique Treatment by Mansory

This rather whimsical version of the G-Class, built by none other than the Mansory atelier, is called the Gronos Coupe EVO C and first appeared a few years ago. Only eight examples will be produced, each with its own distinct configuration. Each one is wild, each one is striking, and each one would likely have Karl Benz turning uneasily in his grave.

The latest build looks as if it was made for a slow cruise past the valet stands in Dubai or a theatrical glide through central London in the height of summer. It combines exposed forged carbon fiber with a deep brown paint finish—a combination that guarantees you will never, ever be overlooked.

Exterior and Interior Details

The forged carbon fiber extends to the heavily reworked front end, bringing with it a new bumper, reshaped air intakes, a pronounced splitter, and a new radiator grille. Mansory has also fitted an extroverted carbon fiber hood, as well as flared wheel arches that further emphasize the vehicle’s stance. The brown paint covers most of the Mercedes’ upper half, including the tailgate, roof, and side window frames.

Other body modifications include a large rear diffuser and a fixed roof spoiler. Mansory would probably like you to believe they are improving aerodynamics, but in something shaped like a brick, it feels almost inconsequential.

What buyers are really after is a suitably luxurious interior, and the Gronos Coupe EVO C delivers in full. The seats, door panels, steering wheel, and dashboard have been upholstered in new soft white leather, with black contrast stitching and piping. Forged carbon fiber is also scattered throughout the cabin, just in case you forget who built it.

Performance and Practicality

No performance figures are mentioned, but Mansory typically works its magic on the powertrain. It wouldn’t be surprising if power exceeded 900 horsepower.

Undoubtedly, the strangest part of this G-Class lies in its name. It is a two-door coupe with so-called “suicide” front doors. Why, you might ask? Who knows. It obviously significantly reduces practicality and seems rather illogical. But if you’re buying a Mansory product, you’re probably not thinking logically at all.

The emergence of cars like the Gronos Coupe EVO C clearly outlines two parallel realities of the automotive world. On one side—mass production and engineering focused on efficiency and user experience. On the other—exclusive ateliers that transform series models into unique works of art, where the primary criteria are not functionality, but expressiveness and status. Such projects, despite their extravagance, serve as an important catalyst for design and technology, often testing solutions that may later find their place in more mainstream products. They remind us that a car can be not only a means of transportation but also a powerful carrier of personality and cultural codes.
