Rare Mustang SVT Cobra Sold for a Record Amount
Collector cars are sometimes sold for incredible sums, and this case is a prime example. A 1993 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra model just went under the hammer for a price that exceeds the cost of a new Porsche 911 Turbo. This indicates that the demand for retro cars, especially such unique specimens, is only growing.
The Fox body Mustang was not always considered the best version of this legendary model, but it was the base for several important modifications, including the SVT Cobra. Now this model is becoming even more valuable, as someone is willing to pay a huge amount of money for it.
Auction Details
This 1993 Mustang SVT Cobra has only 12 miles on the odometer – that’s about a third of a mile per year. The car was barely used after leaving the factory, and its condition can be considered perfect. Despite this, it has had two previous owners and has now found a new one.
The bidding ended at $204,000, making this specimen one of the most expensive Fox body Mustangs in history.
The car is painted in Teal metallic, has an Opal grey leather interior, and pristine 17-inch alloy wheels. Under the hood is a 4.94-liter V8 producing 235 horsepower, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission.
Interestingly, just 30 minutes before the auction ended, the bid was only $97,000, but the final stage of the auction was intense – two participants drove the price up by almost double. Finally, someone decided that this Mustang was worth exactly that amount.
The original price of this model in 1993 was $21,578, which, adjusted for inflation, is equivalent to approximately $48,000 today. This shows how much prices for collector cars have changed over the past decades. Now all that remains is to wait and see if the new owner will drive this Mustang for at least its 13th mile.
