Legendary Honda Civic Type R EK9 sold for a record price
In the 1990s and 2000s, Honda produced some of the best Japanese-made sports cars. Models like the Civic Type R are now worth significantly more than their original price. Recently, a 1997 Civic Type R was sold for $29,888, despite being an imported specimen with numerous modifications.
Interestingly, a similar amount could buy a more modern FK8 version. However, this EK9 is a right-hand-drive Japanese car privately imported to the U.S. It features the classic Championship White color and a B16B engine producing 185 hp and revving up to 8,400 rpm.
Technical features and interior
The car is equipped with a range of tuned components, including:
“A new Spoon Sports engine control unit, K&N filter, lightweight flywheel, Ohlins suspension, as well as reinforced suspension arms and stabilizers.”
The interior is styled in the signature Type R fashion with Recaro red seats and floor mats. Despite the 187,100 km mileage, the interior appears well-preserved. The car remains a coveted purchase for fans of Japanese sports cars.
Prices for classic Type Rs continue to rise, sparking debates among car enthusiasts. Is it worth paying as much for an older model as for a newer one? Clearly, for many collectors, historical value and nostalgia outweigh practical considerations.
