This Honda Odyssey Type R with a Manual Transmission Makes Every Father a Real Hero

Unexpected Reality

When the words Odyssey and Type R appear in the same sentence, most people assume it’s a digital concept or a fan rendering of a powerful family car. However, this specimen is absolutely real and presented under the spotlights of the SEMA show in Las Vegas.

Authorship and Design

The unique Odyssey Type R is not an official Honda project but was created by independent builders Bisimoto and Jordan Distributors. Despite this, it looks very similar to what Honda itself could have developed, although it is too extreme for any production line.

The exterior styling is expressive but not as flashy as one might expect, with glossy black elements and aerodynamic details, including a front spoiler, side skirts, and a rear diffuser.

Exterior and Wheelbase

This diffuser houses three exhaust pipes, leaving no doubt: this is not an ordinary family car. Red Honda emblems and Type R badges are placed on the radiator grille and rear doors.

Bisimoto installed 19-inch black alloy wheels, borrowed from the Civic Type R, on the minivan. They are paired with adjustable lowering springs, giving the Odyssey a more sporty stance that balances on the edge of absurdity.

Technical Specifications

The visual changes are neat, but the real story begins under the hood. There, a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder K20C engine from the Civic Type R replaces the standard V6. The builders did not limit themselves to a simple swap; intensive tuning increased the power from 315 horsepower to an impressive 550 horsepower.

Transmission and Interior

What makes this build even more interesting is its departure from the production model’s configuration. The standard Odyssey with a V6 engine comes only with an automatic transmission, but this Type R version brings back a true manual gearbox.

A high-mounted, leather-wrapped gear lever and three aluminum pedals confirm that the driver’s right hand and left foot are finally back in business. Despite the transformation, the rest of the interior remains practically untouched: three rows of seats, sliding doors, and the everyday practicality that defines the Odyssey.

Uniqueness and Impression

Like most SEMA creations, the Odyssey Type R will remain a unique experiment. However, it makes a compelling argument that the spirit of a hot hatchback can thrive in unexpected places. It transforms the humble minivan into something truly exciting, at least for enthusiasts who still believe that practicality should be accompanied by the whistle of a turbo.

Similar projects demonstrate how flexible the automotive industry can be when it comes to combining family practicality with high performance. Although mass production of such a car is unlikely, it serves as an inspiration for those who wish to combine daily needs with the emotions of driving. It also highlights the role of exhibitions like SEMA in presenting innovative ideas that can influence future trends in the automotive world.
