This Hummer EV Lost $45 Thousand in Value Without Even Leaving the Dealership

Although everyone dreams of a new car, the rapid depreciation of most models is an unpleasant reality. A prime example is this Hummer EV, which lost $45 thousand from its original value at auction, even though it had only driven a few hundred miles.

The base 3X version would have cost $104,650, but this particular example had additional options. The most important one was the Omega Edition package for $23,355, which included matte Neptune Blue paint, a removable transparent roof, 18-inch wheels, and black emblems. An off-road package for $9,995 was also added, featuring underbody armor, underbody cameras, and differential locks.

The total price with all options was $140,295; however, at auction, the Hummer EV SUV sold for just $95.5 thousand. In previous auctions on Bring a Trailer, the maximum bid reached $95.75 thousand but did not meet the reserve. A week later, when the reserve was removed, someone got a real bargain.

Externally, this 830-horsepower Hummer with three motors looks brand new – and no wonder, since its mileage is only 404 miles (650 km). That’s about two weeks of driving for the average American, so the massive 200+ kWh battery has not yet lost its capacity.

The auction winner will become the first private owner – the car was never registered, as it remained with the dealer with the original manufacturer’s certificate.

Buying a brand new car can be advantageous with promotional financing, which is not available at auctions. Part of the depreciation is explained by it being a 2024 model, not a 2025. But saving $45 thousand from the original price or $25 thousand compared to a 2025 equivalent is a compelling argument in favor of the purchase.
