This Genesis Concept Car is Not Just a Fantasy, It Will Appear in Several Variants

Production of Genesis Magma GT Supercar Confirmed

Genesis has officially confirmed plans to put its boldest concept into production—the mid-engined Magma GT supercar. This is not just a futuristic design study, but a real car that will appear on roads and racetracks.

Key facts about the future car:

A Whole Family of High-Performance Models

The brand’s creative director, Luc Donckerwolke, revealed details in a conversation with Autocar, stating that the shown prototype is only the “base model.” The creation of a whole family of modifications is planned, including S, GTS, roadster, lightweight, club sport, GT3 for public roads, and GT3 R for track use versions.

We will add S, GTS, roadster, lightweight, club sport, GT3 road car, GT3 R for track use.

This approach resembles Porsche’s strategy with the 911 model and indicates the serious intentions of the Korean brand to establish itself in the supercar market. The Magma GT will be the only Genesis to be produced exclusively as a product of the Magma line, separate from the brand’s regular sedans and crossovers.

The Powertrain Question Remains Open

One of the main questions that remains unanswered is the powertrain of the production car. The concept was equipped with a V8 engine, but the final decision has not yet been made. Donckerwolke noted that the choice will be influenced by customer demand and performance requirements for participation in GT3 competitions.

This leaves the possibility for hybrid technologies or even a different engine configuration. Preserving the eight-cylinder layout would be a strong signal, especially in the North American market dominated by the Chevrolet Corvette C8.

A Unique Path, Not Direct Competition

Genesis management emphasizes that it does not aim for direct confrontation with icons like the Porsche 911. Instead, the brand plans to offer its own, unique path.

Our design and engineering will be completely different… Applying the Genesis recipe that combines sophistication and athletic performance will give it a special positioning.

Hyundai Motor Group’s technical director, Manfred Harrer, who previously worked on the 911, supported this idea, stating that they cannot go against such an iconic car and must find their own way.

Significance for the Market and the Brand

The launch of the Magma GT into production is an important step for Genesis, demonstrating the brand’s ambitions to move beyond the premium mass-market car segment. Creating a GT3 version will require the production of at least 250 road cars for homologation, but the company plans to manufacture significantly more. The model’s success could significantly boost the image and sporting reputation of the entire brand, as well as fill a niche in the market by offering an alternative to traditional European manufacturers. A key factor could be the price-to-quality ratio, which has always been a strong point of the Korean automotive industry.
