This Chinese SUV Combines Features of Lexus, Land Rover, and a Hint of G-Class

New SUV from BYD Fang Cheng Bao – Tai 7

The Chinese brand BYD Fang Cheng Bao is preparing to launch a new luxury SUV called the Tai 7. The model features a massive design, reminiscent of the Land Rover Defender, but with some unique elements. The car is equipped with a hybrid powertrain that includes a 1.5-liter engine, an electric motor, and a lithium battery.

The design of the Tai 7 is controversial due to its similarity to the Defender, especially in the front section. However, Chinese engineers have added their own details, such as split headlights. The rear also resembles the Defender, but with elements of the Lexus GX. Among the features are square wheel arches and massive body lines.

Technical Specifications

The hybrid system of the Tai 7 consists of:

The car’s top speed is 190 km/h, and its weight is 2,230 kg. The model’s dimensions are: length – 4,999 mm, width – 1,995 mm, height – 1,865 mm. The ground clearance and wheelbase are somewhat smaller than those of the Defender 130.

The Tai 7 is expected to go on sale by the end of 2023 at a price of around 300,000 yuan (less than $42,000). Despite obvious design borrowings, the model offers modern hybrid technology at a relatively affordable price compared to European counterparts. This could make it attractive for markets where environmental friendliness is combined with the need for status cars.
