Premiere of a unique hypercar at the Paris Motor Show
The new Capricorn 01 Zagato hypercar was presented at the Retromobile exhibition in Paris. This car combines German engineering, Italian design, and an American engine, making it very interesting for car enthusiasts. The prototype debuted just a few months after the first version was shown in Belgium.
Key features of the car:
Exterior and Design
While the original model was painted in the characteristic Verde Knokke green color and had an interior of brown leather, the new version received a bold Giallo Sole yellow coating. The interior is finished in bright blue suede, which radically changes the car’s visual perception.
Both prototypes, which the company describes as “engineering-oriented development vehicles,” are fully functional and drivable, not just concepts. A third car is already being built at the company’s facilities in Mönchengladbach, Germany.
The model was designed by Zagato, with characteristic features such as a double-bubble roof and almond-shaped headlights.
The car also has aggressive aerodynamic elements, gull-wing doors, flying buttresses reminiscent of the Ford GT, a sculpted engine hood with a dual exhaust system, and full-size rear lights.
Classic Interior
The interior impresses with its analog styling: real dials, a mechanical forged gear shift lever, and a round steering wheel with rotary control elements. The interior is complemented by modern bucket seats, and the combination of blue suede and exposed carbon fiber creates a harmonious image.
Power and Technical Specifications
The Capricorn 01 is based on a carbon fiber monocoque chassis, and under the hood is a centrally located, turbocharged 5.2-liter V8 engine. This engine, originally developed by Ford, has been significantly modified to deliver over 888 hp and 1000 Nm of torque.
Capricorn claims that the car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 3 seconds and reach a top speed of 360 km/h.
All this power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox, emphasizing the car’s analog spirit. Thanks to rear-wheel drive, a dry weight of less than 1200 kg, and a powerful V8 engine, the car has serious potential.
Availability and Competition
The first deliveries to customers are planned for the end of this year. According to the company, only a “minimal number” of the planned 19 units remain available, despite a price of 2.95 million euros.
At such a price, the car competes with giants like Ferrari, McLaren, Bugatti, Koenigsegg, and Pagani. However, the fact that Capricorn already has three fully functional development prototypes indicates the seriousness of the company’s intentions. This may be the company’s first production car, but their lightweight components have already been used by Porsche in LMP1, Peugeot Sport at Le Mans and Dakar, Mercedes, Lotus, and Caterham in Formula 1, as well as Volkswagen in WRC.
The emergence of a car like the Capricorn 01 Zagato demonstrates that the exclusive hypercar market continues to evolve, combining traditional values, such as a manual transmission, with modern materials and extreme power. Despite the very high price and limited series, interest in such unique projects remains high among collectors and enthusiasts who seek not only speed but also the emotions of driving. The success of this project could be an important step for a small company aiming to establish itself among legendary manufacturers.
