This 1985 Mercedes 300D Has Fewer Miles Than a New 2025 Corolla

A Classic Mercedes-Benz with Minimal Mileage

In a world of modern cars, often devoid of any character and serving merely as a means of transportation, this 1985 Mercedes-Benz W123 300D Turbo is the complete opposite. Cars from this era are renowned for their exceptional build quality and engines capable of running for decades.

The peculiarity of this specimen is its incredibly low mileage – only 18,000 miles (approximately 29,000 km) since its release, making it one of the least driven cars in the USA.

Vehicle Condition and History

The car listed for auction was initially sold in Massachusetts and, despite its age, has a Carfax report with no accident records. It is painted in a metallic “Smoke Silver” color and comes equipped with original 14-inch alloy wheels and bumpers in a black-chrome finish.

Recent Updates and Technical Features

According to the auction listing, the car was recently serviced and restored by Mercedes-Benz specialists in Georgia. Thanks to the low mileage, the 3.0-liter five-cylinder inline turbo diesel engine should remain reliable provided it receives proper ongoing care. The engine produces 123 horsepower and 184 lb-ft (249 Nm) of torque.

The engine isn’t particularly lively, but it certainly has character.

The unit is paired with a four-speed automatic transmission.

Interior and Necessary Replacements

The interior features black upholstery on the seats, door panels, and dashboard. It also includes numerous Zebrano wood trim elements, automatic climate control, and the original Becker Grand Prix audio system.

Despite its excellent appearance, the car needs a new set of tires, as it still has the original rubber from 1985 installed. A spare set of wheels is also included with the sale, but they too are fitted with Continental tires manufactured in 1985.

Such finds at auctions remind us of an era when cars were built to last for decades of use, and their design and technical solutions bore the stamp of individuality. The low mileage of this Mercedes not only increases its collector’s value but also indicates that it has been kept in ideal conditions, almost like a museum exhibit. This is a rare opportunity to acquire not just an old car, but a time capsule in excellent technical condition, requiring only minimal investment for full use. The demand for such high-quality rarities among collectors is always high, making them not only an object of admiration but also an interesting asset from the perspective of value preservation.
