The Smallest Camper in Europe
Campers have gained a loyal audience across Europe, with medium-sized vans becoming the primary base for converters. However, not everyone needs that much space, and this niche inspired the German company Ari Motors to create perhaps the smallest camper currently sold in the country, and possibly on the entire continent.
It is based on the Ari 458 Pro, which the company describes as the largest van in the L7e category, which is itself a niche. At just 3820 mm long, this tiny camper is barely longer than a modern Fiat 500e (3632 mm). It is also shorter than a Mini Cooper hatchback (3858 mm) and even falls short of the Mazda MX-5 ND (3915 mm).
At the front, it retains the same cheerful face, compact wheels, and two-seat cabin as the commercial van. Like several other Ari Motors products, it is likely supplied by a Chinese partner.
Compact Living Space Layout

The real talking point is at the back. The rear module resembles a compact suitcase with small windows, forming a tiny living space. Ari claims it offers 2.8 square meters of usable floor area with a maximum interior height of 1.85 m.
In order to keep the starting price as low as possible, the camper is offered without any furniture. Essentially, it’s an empty box on wheels.
What you get is the “necessary utility infrastructure,” which includes a water supply system with fresh and wastewater tanks, as well as 230-volt sockets.

Those who want a fully-fledged camper must purchase a bed, rear seats, a table, a kitchen unit, and a portable toilet from other companies. Ari Motors does offer a “minimalist” interior conversion, manufactured at their facility in Borna near Leipzig, although they haven’t yet shown what it actually looks like.
Upfront, the equipment is minimal as expected. There is an electric package, central locking, Bluetooth, a digital instrument panel, a rearview camera, and one cupholder. Air conditioning is an option, as are solar charging and a trailer hitch.
Electric Drive Specifications

The Ari 458 Pro uses a single electric motor with 20 hp (15 kW), fully compliant with L7e category regulations. With the largest battery selected, it provides a range of up to 230 km, and the top speed is limited to 70 km/h.
There’s nothing particularly complex under the hood. Like most heavy quadricycles, it operates outside the stricter standards applied to regular passenger cars.
How Much Does It Cost?
Besides the camper variant, the Ari 458 Pro is offered in more than 30 configurations. Buyers can choose a box van, a food truck, a flatbed, a dump truck, or even a compact garbage truck. Prices start from €15,790 before taxes for the basic van, while the camper version in Germany costs from €30,381.

The emergence of such a compact electric camper indicates a growing demand for alternative forms of mobile housing aimed at urban dwellers or those seeking the simplest travel solutions. Its limited size and speed make it ideal for leisurely short-distance trips, and its low price compared to traditional campers could be a significant argument. However, the lack of standard equipment and the need to furnish the interior yourself turn the purchase into a project requiring additional effort and investment. The success of this model may determine whether there is a sustainable market for ultra-compact, almost modular campers, or if this will remain an experimental niche.
