This New Ford Appears Capable of Surpassing All Previous GT500 Models

Available Alternative to the Mustang GTD

While the Ford Mustang GTD is impressive with its specifications, it is extremely expensive and inaccessible to most Ford customers. Fortunately, a more affordable, but possibly no less powerful version of the Mustang is being developed, which is expected to revive the GT500 nameplate, and this might be our first look at it.

Testing and Expected Specifications

In recent months, several camouflaged Ford Mustang prototypes have been spotted during testing, and our photographers captured one back in June. One of these test cars was filmed in motion by FordAuthority, sounding very convincing, which will undoubtedly whet the appetite of those who find the Dark Horse insufficient.

This secret Mustang prototype could destroy all previous GT500s

The front end of the prototype is fully camouflaged, and for good reason. Under the bulging hood likely resides the same 5.2-liter supercharged V8 found in the F-150 Raptor R. Ford will inevitably aim to extract more than the 760 hp offered by the old Shelby GT500, likely approaching the 800 hp mark. However, given that the new GT500 will be much cheaper than the GTD, we do not expect it to reach the GTD’s 815 horsepower.

Sound and Dynamics

As for the sound, the rumble of this prototype’s V8 is impossible to confuse with any other engine. However, since the engineer behind the wheel was driving quite cautiously, we didn’t have the opportunity to hear the characteristic whine of a large supercharger. We’ll probably have to wait a bit longer to hear it at full power as development continues.

Tires and Design

Beyond the engine and camouflage, this prototype is equipped with large Pirelli P Zero R tires, size 305/30ZR20 at the front and 315/30ZR20 at the rear, mirroring the dimensions of the old GT500. The rear looks almost standard for a Mustang GT, but the production model is likely to receive a unique bumper, diffuser, and exhaust system.

Origin of the Information

Rumors about the new Mustang GT500 first emerged in February after an internal UAW document was leaked online. It stated that the car would be equipped with an engine named ‘Legend,’ produced on the same line as the 5.2-liter supercharged V8 installed in the Raptor R.

This model could become key for Ford in the battle for the high-performance sports car market, combining high technical specifications with relative affordability. Its arrival could significantly intensify competition in a segment dominated by brands like Chevrolet and Dodge, offering muscle car enthusiasts modern technology and dynamics without excessive cost.
