This Land Cruiser 60 SUV for $19,000 is built on a regular Toyota Probox

Japanese tuning studio turns Toyota Probox into a retro SUV

Japanese craftsmen are once again surprising with their love for transforming the humble Toyota Probox into genuine off-road icons. This time, the company Goosfam from the city of Niigata has created an image of the legendary Land Cruiser 60 Series for this wagon.

The conversion kit is named RetroPro and is offered in two variants: Urban Classic and LifeStyle Retro. Both feature a square front end with iconic square headlights, simple radiator grilles, and a special bumper with orange turn signals. The kit also includes a flat hood and redesigned front fenders.

Two styles — one spirit

The main difference between the versions lies in the details. Urban Classic has many chrome elements, while LifeStyle Retro replaces the shiny parts with black accents. The rest of the body remains from the donor Toyota Probox but receives new colors, such as beige, brown, and light blue, reminiscent of the Land Cruiser palette.

The finishing touch is new five-spoke Dossfam alloy wheels with a black finish, shod in off-road tires. For those who want more, Goosfam will soon announce a line of additional accessories for the RetroPro kit.

Mechanics unchanged

Under the hood, there are no changes — it retains the proven 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine or a self-charging hybrid powertrain. The Probox is also available with optional all-wheel drive, making it an ideal candidate for such a conversion.

Prices and availability

According to the tuner’s official website, the RetroPro kit costs from ¥660,000 ($4,100) before installation and painting. Fully finished vehicles are priced from ¥2,980,000 ($18,600) for the LifeStyle Retro version and from ¥3,145,000 ($20,000) for the Urban Classic. Sales begin on July 1 through Sano Auto dealers in Japan.

Not the first such project

RetroPro is not the first Probox with the spirit of the Land Cruiser. Another tuner, Hakobanya, offers a “70 Box” conversion inspired by the Land Cruiser 70 Series, proving that round headlights can be just as charming as square ones.

Goosfam

This project demonstrates how the Japanese tuning market continues to experiment with retro style, adapting modern budget cars to the images of legendary SUVs. Although technically the Probox remains a regular utilitarian wagon, the visual transformation makes it attractive to fans of classic Land Cruisers looking for a more affordable alternative. It is worth noting that such projects often become popular not only in Japan but also in export markets, where unique style and practicality are valued.
