This five-seater crossover develops 1,193 horsepower – nine more than the Ferrari F80

New generation Denza N8: more space and power

When the Denza brand first appeared on the market, it was a joint project between BYD and Mercedes-Benz. One of the first models was the seven-seat SUV Denza X, which after a design update in 2023 was renamed N8. After Mercedes left the project, BYD continued to develop the N8 lineup and has now introduced a completely new version, as well as an extended six-seat modification, the N8L.

Unlike previous generations, the new N8 has abandoned the sleek coupe-like design in favor of more traditional SUV shapes. This decision has its advantages: a higher roofline significantly improves headroom for passengers. The third row of seats has been removed, making the N8 strictly a five-seater. For those needing a vehicle with three rows for six seats, the larger N8L version is available.

Two sizes, one concept

According to information released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the new N8 has a length of 5150 mm, a width of 1999 mm, and a height of 1820 mm, with a wheelbase of 3075 mm. The N8L version is 50 mm longer (total length 5200 mm), while the wheelbase, width, and height remain unchanged.

Family resemblance is evident throughout the lineup: the N8 has borrowed the shape of its daytime running lights from the newer Z9 model. The main headlights are positioned vertically at the edges of the front end, with a small black radiator grille integrated into the lower part of the bumper.

Available options include 20- or 21-inch wheels, body-colored roofs, custom brake calipers, and integrated electric side steps. At the rear, both SUVs feature an LED light strip that echoes the latest Denza plug-in hybrids.

Power that surpasses supercars

Preliminary information indicates that the N8 will initially be offered with three powertrain options. Two of these will be rear-wheel drive with a single electric motor producing 429 hp (320 kW) and 496 hp (370 kW), respectively. While these figures are already very solid for such a vehicle, Denza’s engineers couldn’t resist creating a flagship version with three motors.

This three-motor model will feature two engines producing 416 hp (310 kW) each on the rear axle and one engine producing 362 hp (270 kW) on the front. The total power reaches 1,193 hp. For comparison, this is more than the Ferrari F80 supercar, whose power is limited to 1,184 hp.

Denza also offers a longer six-seat version, the N8L.

Powering these motors will be a second-generation Blade Battery, which supports BYD’s ultra-fast charging technology at 1500 kW. The exact charging time has not yet been announced, but it is expected to be almost as fast as refueling a gasoline car.

The technological arsenal is complemented by the God’s Eye 5.0 semi-autonomous driving system, designed for use both on highways and in the city. It operates based on an end-to-end artificial intelligence model trained on real driving data. The hardware includes a roof-mounted lidar and millimeter-wave radars in the front bumper.

Thus, the new generation Denza N8 offers not just a refreshed design, but a radically different approach to layout, focusing on practicality and space. The removal of the third row in the standard version and the introduction of the extended N8L indicate a clear differentiation of models for different customer needs. The impressive specifications of the top version, which surpasses well-known supercars in power, demonstrate BYD’s ambitions not only in the electric vehicle segment but also in creating true technological masterpieces. The combination of ultra-fast charging, advanced autonomous systems, and significant power makes the new N8 a serious player in the premium electric vehicle market.
