This retro off-roader looks vintage but shows its true nature only when driving

Classic Land Rover Defender converted into a modern electric vehicle

ECD Automotive has introduced a unique restomod Project Powder Keg based on the Land Rover Defender 110. Externally, it’s the same iconic off-roader, but under the hood now works a modern electric powertrain. The owner will be able to enjoy silent off-road driving, although they should remember the limited range – up to 200 miles (322 km).

The heart of the project is the Electric Direct EV platform with an 84 kWh battery and a 300 hp motor (499 Nm of torque). To preserve off-road capabilities, engineers retained the option to choose between all-wheel and rear-wheel drive.

Updated design and interior

External changes are minimal: absence of an exhaust pipe, Bonatti gray color with black accents, a six-point safety cage, and an updated bumper with a Warn winch. Additional LED lights are installed on the roof, and a steel bumper and spare tire are at the rear.

The interior received a full update: Recaro Orthoped seats in Veluto Pelle leather, a new Exmoor Evander steering wheel, aluminum inserts, and a modern multimedia system. The project cost is not disclosed, which indicates its exclusivity.

This project demonstrates how a classic car can get a new life thanks to modern technologies. Electrification not only preserves but also improves the characteristics of the legendary off-roader, making it more environmentally friendly and technological. Similar projects are becoming increasingly popular among collectors and enthusiasts who seek a combination of classic design and modern technologies.
