Kia recalls over 100 thousand sedans due to trim issues
Kia Motors has announced a recall of 100,063 sedans from model years 2023-2025 due to problems with the fastening of decorative elements. It is reported that the trim on the C-pillars can delaminate and fall off while the vehicle is in motion, creating a hazard for other road users.
Initially, the company considered the problem minor, but after additional checks, over 4,000 cases of trim delamination were discovered. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) initiated an investigation after receiving complaints from vehicle owners.
Details of the problem and its solution
As it turned out, the cause lies in the insufficient application of the adhesive layer during production. Owners may notice the problem in advance – through a characteristic rattling sound or visible delamination of the element.
Kia initially believed that the problem did not pose a serious threat, as the fallen trim “lies flat on the ground,” but after intervention from regulators, the company revised its position.
Dealerships will conduct a free inspection and replacement of the problematic elements with an updated version that combines an improved adhesive layer with mechanical fastening. Notifications to owners are planned to be sent out in September.
This case once again reminds us of the importance of attention to small details in automobiles. Even seemingly minor problems can turn into serious safety risks, especially when it comes to elements that can detach while the vehicle is moving. Kia, like other manufacturers, continues to improve its quality control processes to prevent similar situations in the future.
