New Mustang Shelby GT500 Prepares for Launch
Photographers have captured a prototype that is likely to become the successor to the Mustang Shelby GT500. The vehicle hides an updated bumper, hood, and extended wing design under camouflage. Production of the new model could begin as early as this year.
Ford continues to expand its lineup of powerful Mustangs. A new variant – likely an updated Shelby GT500 – will appear between the base EcoBoost version and the track-focused GTD. Test vehicles already have production bodies, although key design details are still hidden.
Expected Design Changes
The front end will receive a more aggressive bumper with larger air intakes, a pronounced hood, and wide fenders. The car is already equipped with Pirelli P Zero R tires in 305/30ZR20 size at the front and 315/30ZR20 at the rear – the same ones used on the previous GT500.
The rear spoiler is currently borrowed from the Mustang GT Performance, but in the production version it will likely be changed. An update to the rear bumper and exhaust system is also expected.
Power and Technical Features
The new model may receive an engine based on the supercharged 5.2-liter V8, similar to the one installed in the F-150 Raptor. This will allow it to exceed the 760 hp mark, approaching the 815 hp of the Mustang GTD. Improvements to the chassis compared to the Dark Horse are also expected.
While Ford prepares its version, Shelby American is also working on its own Mustang modifications. Their GT350R already develops up to 830 hp thanks to a Whipple supercharger. More details about the new GT500 are expected to emerge in the coming months, especially as the production start date approaches.
Recent test shots show that Ford engineers are actively working on refining the car. Given the brand’s traditions, the new GT500 is expected to be one of the most technologically advanced and powerful versions of the Mustang in recent years.
