New Lexus ES Concept in a Wagon Body
Wagons have long given way to SUVs in the market, but they still evoke excitement among classic car enthusiasts. A prime example is the Lexus IS SportCross, the only wagon in the brand’s 36-year history.
This model lasted only one generation but remained in the hearts of fans. Digital artist Theophilus Chin created a concept of a modern Lexus wagon based on the ES sedan, adding design elements from the electric RZ.
In this version, the rear glass smoothly transitions into the side windows, which visually makes the D-pillars thinner and the profile cleaner.
The wheelbase and rear overhang remained unchanged, so the concept retains the dimensions of the original sedan. If the ES SportCross had entered series production, it could have competed with the BMW i5 Touring and other premium wagons. However, Lexus is currently focused on sedans and crossovers, making the realization of such a project unlikely.
In 2021, rumors emerged about the possibility of creating various modifications, including a wagon and a convertible, but for now, the brand seems to be betting on electrification. If the concept is ever realized, the flagship ES 500e version with all-wheel drive and a 530 km range could become an interesting alternative for wagon enthusiasts.
