This Volkswagen Actually Hides a Modern Porsche Under the Hood

Many car enthusiasts love to modify their vehicles, but not everyone manages to achieve a harmonious result. History knows many failed projects, which we have repeatedly discussed. However, today we are dealing with a true masterpiece, where technical perfection is combined with an original idea.

Meet Uno – this is a 1967 Volkswagen Beetle mounted on the chassis of a 1997 Porsche Boxster. Vintage style combined with modern dynamic characteristics. Such a tandem makes one wonder: why didn’t anyone think of this before?

Modern Technology in a Classic Execution

“I’ve always loved the Beetle, but couldn’t stand its handling, so I created this project,” says designer Linden Lee. The Boxster turned out to be the perfect base, as its wheelbase and platform allowed for the integration of the Beetle’s body without major changes. The body is made of steel, not fiberglass. The author also installed a folding roof, opening rear windows, custom air intakes, and an exhaust system.

The suspension is equipped with coilovers and strut braces. At each of the four corners, 19-inch wheels are installed with 305 mm wide tires on the rear axle. A modified spoiler from a Toyota Supra adorns the Porsche logo, as does the lower splitter. These details emphasize the uniqueness of the project. The modern Porsche systems remain functional, including ABS, cruise control, power steering, electric seat adjustment, and instruments.

Enough Power for Enjoyment

Although Lee does not provide current dyno data, the original 1997 Boxster produced 201 hp (149 kW) and 245 Nm of torque. This is certainly not a supercar by modern standards, but it is quite sufficient power for such a car.

Considering that the Beetle body is likely lighter than the original Boxster, the power-to-weight ratio should be significantly better. This ensures improved dynamics, although it deprives the car of the Beetle’s classic handling character.

Linden Lee offers Uno for £23,500 (about $31,000). For this money, you get a car with the vintage charm of a Beetle, but with modern performance. It won’t win at drag racing, but it will definitely attract more attention than a regular tuned car.
