These Mazda MX-5s Roar Like a Jaguar and Are Coming Soon to the USA

British Company Rocketeer Cars Upgrades the Mazda MX-5

The British company Rocketeer Cars, which specializes in upgrading the Mazda MX-5 (NA and NB), is preparing to enter the US market. Their main innovation is replacing the standard four-cylinder engine with a 3.0-liter naturally aspirated V6 from Jaguar. This engine is not only more powerful but also lighter, making it ideal for a small rear-wheel-drive sports car.

The standard MXV6 version from Rocketeer produces 280 hp, which is more than sufficient for such a compact car. Additionally, the company is working on an ultra-lightweight version called Keiryō, which will weigh just 1,873 pounds (850 kg) and have 375 hp. This makes it a competitor even to the Lamborghini Huracan in terms of power-to-weight ratio.

Pricing and Availability

Rocketeer offers two options for buyers: complete cars or do-it-yourself kits. A fully finished MXV6 costs approximately $29,000, while a self-installation kit will cost $21,000. The company has already released 30 finished cars and shipped 150 kits, and thanks to additional investment, it plans to expand its presence in the USA.

“This is great news for MX-5 fans who want a more powerful V6 option under the hood.”

By the end of the year, Rocketeer also plans to introduce upgraded versions for the NC MX-5 model. Although these cars are not a budget option, they offer a unique combination of lightness, power, and British style that is unlikely to leave true enthusiasts indifferent.

The growing demand for restomodified MX-5s indicates that even classic sports cars can find new life thanks to modern technology and creative engineering solutions. Rocketeer demonstrates how to combine a legendary platform with more powerful units without losing its main advantages—lightness and road feel.
