Flex offers an unusual solution for those who like modern technology but miss the classic design of 80s SUVs. Three modified Toyota Tacoma pickups of the previous generation, which have received a retro exterior, are for sale in San Diego. Prices for these vehicles start at $42,495.
The conversion kit appeared in late 2023 and was created specifically for the US market. It replaces the standard front end of the third-generation Tacoma with a square retro design inspired by the Land Cruiser 60 Series. The vehicle gets round headlights, a massive grille, and a vintage-style bumper. Buyers can choose different color schemes and additional off-road equipment.
Three Versions for Different Needs
All three modified pickups are based on the 2017 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab but have different equipment. The first example is an SR5 with rear-wheel drive, 87,094 miles (140,200 km) on the odometer, and a price of $42,495. It is painted red with black, silver, and white decals. The vehicle is equipped with black American Racing Outlaw II wheels, BF Goodrich K02 tires, a folding bed cover, and chrome steel bumpers.
The second vehicle is also a rear-wheel drive SR5, but with a lower mileage of 40,399 miles (65,000 km), so its price is slightly higher at $44,495. It has a silver body color with gray decals and 17-inch Nomad Convoy Utility Gray wheels with Nitto Recon Grappler tires.
The most impressive is the third option — a TRD Sport with all-wheel drive, built for travel enthusiasts. Its mileage is 71,364 miles (114,900 km), and its price reaches $61,995. The vehicle is beige with brown, orange, and yellow decals, as well as black Method 308 wheels and off-road tires.
Off-Road Equipment of the Most Expensive Version
The most expensive pickup has received a significant set of additional equipment. The front bumper is replaced with a Built Right off-road bumper with an integrated LED light bar and winch. The vehicle is also equipped with a King Shocks 2.5 lift kit, ARB skid plate, Built Right rock sliders, a Warn steel rear bumper, and a Prinsu roof rack with an additional LED light bar. For practicality, an RCI 18 rack is installed, on which an ROAM rooftop tent is mounted, accessible via a folding ladder. Jerry cans and recovery boards mounted on the side emphasize that this Tacoma is built for adventure.
Technical Specifications and Price
All three vehicles are equipped with the standard 3.5-liter V6 engine producing 278 hp (207 kW) and 265 lb-ft (359 Nm) of torque. It works in conjunction with a six-speed automatic transmission, which sends power to the rear or all four wheels.
Fans of retro styling will find much to like in these vehicles, but the prices are quite high. For comparison, a new 2026 Toyota Tacoma ranges from $32,445 for the base SR XtraCab to $64,650 for the flagship TRD Pro. However, a new pickup doesn’t have the classic look of these modified models, which resemble an old Land Cruiser with a truck bed.
